Happy New Year Hawaii! We want to give everyone a New Year Greeting and remind you all to stay safe Hawaii! We look forward to servicing you this year!

It’s a brand new year and the first year of a new decade. While the world is still in crisis (thanks to the new strand of COVID-19) it is time for collectors to evaluate our collections. In this day and age collectible values can rise and fall as quickly as the stock market. This is why we suggest a Hicollector to do an update on your collection’s value once a year (specifically at the beginning of the year). So as we move into 2021, let us begin the new year right by properly updating our collection records.

Do you know what your collection is worth?

It’s important to remember that prices on your collectibles fluctuate year to year.  With this in mind, you need to track your pieces over time to get a realistic sense of what your collection is worth.

In my book, I cite that when we build our collections – value of the item should NOT be the main goal.  That is because true collectors are those individuals that are NOT investing in a collectible, but have an actual passion; that is the intrinsic value of the item.  However, we must clearly distinguish between what we are collecting for fun…and what we are collecting for investment.

Why make the distinction?

True collectors are NOT concerned with the monetary value, but knowing the worth is very important because the inheritors of your collection (obviously you cannot bring it with you to the afterlife) will need to have some idea of what your collection is worth.  This is why one of the questions I always ask collectors is when was the last time you checked the value of your collection.  The failure of doing this one simple concept has caused misery to so many collectors and inheritors.

So take the time to check out what your collection is worth.  Believe me when I say that it is worth it….
