Character Spotlight – Shang-Chi

Born in the Henan province of the People’s Republic of China, Shang-Chi is the son of Fu Manchu. (Fu Manchu is a Chinese mastermind that has repeatedly attempted world conquest). Raised from infancy in the marital arts by his father and tutors, Shang-chi became proficient in numerous unarmed and weaponry based wushu styles, including the use of the g’un, nunchaku, and jian. Originally believing his father to be a benovolent humanitarian, he discovers the truth and vows to put an end to his father’s evil schemes. After his father’s death, Shang-Chi retired and lived as a fisherman in a remote Village called Yang-Tin.

He later discovers his father is still alive and returns to assist his former allies to battle his father. In later comics it is revealed that he has the ability to create countless duplicates of himself. He has been a member of the Avengers, Heroes for Hire and MI-6.

Shang-Chi is scheduled to make a debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten rings.

Shang-Chi first appeared in 1973’s Special Marvel Edition issue #15. The character was created by Steve Englehart and artist Jim Starlin (best known for creating Thanos).who is most known for creating Thanos.
